The competition and the sports specialty are a fundamental mix in the life of an athlete, the high
performance sport requires a physical effort of great exigency, it is evidenced in different
endurance sports; among them we find the sport of triathlon, in which are incluided 3 different
sports disciplines (swimming, cycling and running), these are classified as an elite sport and high
performance, no doubt, thus, it is very important for coaches or athletes to know what is the
condition or state in which is the athlete, this in terms of programming, structure a training plan
and a proper diet in order to a better performance. Taking into account the above, this research was
aimed to determine the anthropometric profile and somatotype of the athletes of the triathlon
league of the department of Quindío, where 5 components were determined: osseous, adipose,
residual, muscular and skin. Which had, as methodology a quantitative focus of descriptive non
experimental cross-sectional scope, whose population was 13 male and female athletes. The main
results were that, the predominant somatotype in the male sex was meso-endomorphic with a
percentage of 40% and in the female sex it was the endomorphic-mesomorphic, with a percentage
of 66.67%. On the other hand, in the general average of the muscular percentage it was of 47.48%;
it was concluded that athletes are on average below normal with respect to high performance
international athletes, however, they are within the normal national rates.
